Prayer and
Praise - October 2004
Chris
& Jana Disler
We praise the Lord that Karissa, the newest addition to our family,
is sleeping and eating well. Alicia and David both love their new
sister, for which we praise the Lord! We also praise the Lord for
opportunities that we have had to share His Word and love with others.
Ellie
Driesenga
Please pray as I travel to Sao Paulo for a pastors and church leaders
conference October 3rd-10th. Also pray for safety and fellowship as
we spend five days on the bus together. Pray that I would be an encouragement
to the three other young ladies who will be going with me, all three
are interested in missions.
Jim &
Lydia Johnson - Furlough
We praise the Lord for the way he has provided for our transportation
needs during our furlough and our other needs as well. We have three
mission conferences this month and would appreciate your prayers as
we present the Word and the ministry. Continue to pray for Hosanna
and Calvin as they study at school.
Bruce
& LeeAnn Nichols - Furlough
We are planning to travel through Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and
South Dakota during the first part of October sharing with friends
and supporters what God has been doing in Brazil. We are thankful
to the Lord for a good time of Bible Study with our boys and their
wives each Sunday afternoon. Pray that each of us would mature spiritually
through these studies.
Ed
& Jane Lieb - Retired
Pray for us as we make the long trip (about 24 hours from start to
finish) to Brazil, leaving on October 5th. Pray for an effective ministry
for us as we both teach at the Antioch Bible Institute. Pray that
we might use our time wisely in visits to be made - we've already
received a couple of requests for visits.
Jerry
& Bev Lehrman - Furlough
We have enjoyed good travels and safety through many miles of travel
and have been blessed with meeting many new people and renewing old
friendships. Pray that God will provide the support that we are lacking
so we can return to Brazil the end of October and resume the ministry
at the Bible Institute.
Philip
& Rachel Stucky
During fall break from school, from the 8th to the 18th, our family
(Philip, Rachel and Mark) will be participating in a unique missionary
experience in the Amazon jungles. During the week we will be traveling
by boat to the Ticuna Indian tribe to teach in their Bible Institute,
and on the weekends before and after we will be ministering in the
churches in Atalaia, Benjamin, Constant and Tabatinga. Pray for the
health, strength, safety and effective ministry among the believers
there.
Paul
& Elaine Syers
Thank the Lord with us for Paul's return to Brazil with a new hip
joint and digital hearing aids, even though he still has pain from
the operation after a long time sitting on the trip. Pray for him
to know what work to take on here at Antioch Bible Institute. Thank
the Lord for Dinho and Fabiana getting up early enough to bring their
newborn to Elaine's 7am classes. Praise also for the help of other
students who care for the baby when they can.
Dan
& Linda Anderson
Praise the Lord for the safe arrival of Rachel Elaine on August 29th.
We are thankful for a safe delivery and a healthy baby. We as a family
are grateful for the time we had with Linda's parents during the month
of September. Pray for the salvation of Gilson, Se Luzia, Soccorro,
Zeka, Andrew and Walter.
Dale
& Carol Johnson
Praise the Lord that Carol's heart condition is being stabilized.
Pray that she will respond to the physical therapy needed for her
to walk again after about three weeks in the hospital with 18 of those
days in intensive care. Praise God for the family fellowship enjoyed
during those days with David and Ron already here and Jared, Joel
and Kathleen who came from the states for a visit.
Dave
& Sue Eldert
We thank the Lord for the good health He gave to Dave's mom during
her month's visit in Brazil. We have had a good beginning to the semester
at Antioch Bible Institute with 17 students - one new girl from Limoeiro.
Pray that we might be able to get a fast internet connection some
time soon.
Harold
& Ruth Green
We would appreciate your prayers for Harold as he travels to Kansas
City October 13th thru 15th to attend the third and concluding session
of the seminar dealing with Resource Development programs for churches
and mission agencies. Pray with us that we will be good stewards of
our time and an encouragement to our missionaries as we serve Him
in the BGFM mission office each day.
Roger
& Crystal Johansen
Please pray for the salvation of Francisco, Marilene, Joselito, Aldeir
and Heloisa. Roger has been doing Bible studies with them.
Joe
& Jeanie Stucky
Pray for Antonio's salvation. He recently had eye surgery and now
cannot see at all with that eye. The doctors don't give him much hope
of recovering his sight. We have been praying for him for years and
have attempted to explain the plan of salvation to him but he hasn't
shown any interest. He seems more receptive now.
Matthew 9:37-38
Then saith he unto His disciples, the
harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; Pray ye therefore
the Lord of the harvest that He will send forth laborers into His
harvest.
Gerald
& Amy Bergen - Retired
We are grateful for the privilege that Gerald has of serving as mentor
to a new, young pastor as well as serving together with him as one
of the pastors of our church. We praise the Lord for His evidence
of blessing. Please pray with us for wisdom and discernment in initiating
some changes and for continued and even greater commitment on the
part of the people to the Lord's work.
Ken
& Lori Stucky
Interest is growing in further developing the church property. Pray
as the men work on clearing brush, planting trees and getting electricity
installed. This preliminary work will set the stage for more construction.
Nancy
Lieb
I am thankful for the month I have spent in our mission guest house.
I had the opportunity to minister to various missionaries.
Ron
& Nancy Johnson
Praise for a wonderful missionary conference at our church in Jereissati
during the 20th anniversary celebration. A baptismal service was held
recently with two adults and one teenager baptized. Pray that some
very difficult interpersonal problems among some of the church members
will be resolved. Pray for ladies and men's retreats coming up and
for the planning of next year's retreats.
SIBIMA Seminary
We had our first Master's Module September 6th thru 10th with fourteen
teachers and seven other students. Pray with us as we continue working
to improve this program. We're reaching the mid term mark for this
semester. Pray for those who plan to graduate this year that they
will complete all of their requirements. Pray for the graduates as
they leave the seminary for fields of service.
Ron
& Ranelle Stucky
Praise for the safe delivery of Silas Michael on August 29th. Pray
for continuing good health for all of us. Pray for wisdom from the
Lord to train Caleb and Silas in a way that glorifies God.
Priscila School
We are beginning to send out the information for the session to be
held in Fortaleza in January 2005. Pray as we schedule teachers and
that we might attract the students who will best serve.
Larry
& Ruth Lipka
What a blessing it was to personally witness the tremendous growth
in the BGFM ministries. Praise God with us for the way He is using
Brazilians to carry on the ministry of taking the Gospel to those
without Christ.
Lucy
Lieb
Pastor Matias announced that he plans to leave the Nova Metropole
Church at the end of the year. Pray for wisdom in finding someone
to take on the pastoral responsibilities.
Matthew 9:37-38
Then saith he unto His disciples, the
harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; Pray ye therefore
the Lord of the harvest that He will send forth laborers into His
harvest.
Brian
& Cindy Peplow
We are thankful for the start of Planalto's first daughter work in
Jardim Guamabara. Pray for the team from Planalto that helps each
week with the Sunday evening service, Wednesday prayer service and
Saturday children's Bible club. We praise the Lord for thirteen lectures
on the subject of creation held in secular universities and schools
throughout Fortaleza. The speaker answered questions related to science
and the Bible for over an hour after each lecture. Please pray for
the unsaved that attended.
Patrick
& Rachel Maher
Pray for the salvation of Val and Luciana, and also for Alessandra's
mother and father who are attending one of our small groups.
Wendell
& Florence Ann Hayden - Retired
We praise the Lord for improvement in controlling Wendell's diabetes
with the insulin pump. However, they have discovered that he has some
infusion site areas that do not absorb the insulin and, therefore
cannot be used. We need wisdom to find good infusion sites every time
for consistent results. Thank you for your prayers.
National Pastor
- Pastor Luiz Ivan
Praise the Lord that Eridan, has the opportunity to teach in a school
in Caucaia. Pray that she may share the Gospel with her students.
Pray that she will be able to share the Gospel clearly to her aunt
who has cancer.
Bill
& Sandi Graf - Mission Representatives
Praise the Lord for two young people from Cornerstone Bible Institute
who will be going to BGFM Candidate Orientation this month. Please
pray for clear direction for both of them. Pray for us as we are in
schools in California this month. We are also the main speakers for
the Vallejo Bible Church Missions Conference.
Al
& Nadine Pierschbacher
Pray with us for the salvation of Dr. Regis, Mr. Montefusco, and Paulina
his wife. Pray for us as we continue to minister at the Retreat and
Training Center and for our evangelism outreach in five major towns
in that area. All of these towns need to be reached with the Gospel
since the percentage of believers is less than one percent.
