Harold and Ruth Green met at a Bible Camp near Corning, New York and
were married in 1960 and shortly thereafter Harold's desire
to be a farmer became a reality. After several years of working
for a farmer they were given the opportunity to purchase the
farm. While considering this possibility, one morning while
reading I Corinthians 15:34 Awake to righteousness and sin not
for some have not the knowledge of God, I speak this to your
shame, they realized that the Lord had other plans for their
lives. In 1964 the Lord directed them to Elohim Bible Institute
to prepare for future ministry. Following graduation in 1967
the Lord directed them to a ministry with the Washington Street
Mission in Springfield, Illinois. During this ministry they
met personnel from the Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission, and
after hearing of the work in Brazil, they desired to be a part
of the missionary team sharing the gospel with the Brazilians.
They were accepted as missionaries in 1968 and arrived in Brazil
in 1969 with their family, Timothy (8), Nathan (6) and Jonathan
(4). Their daughter, Heather, joined the family in 1971.
Their primary ministry was church planting both in the interior regions
of the state of Ceara and later in the capital city of Fortaleza. During
their twenty four years in Brazil they were also involved as host and
hostess in the mission guest home, dorm parents for missionary children,
camps and evangelistic campaigns. For several years, Harold was field
treasurer which was excellent preparation for their present ministry. In
the middle of their fifth term in Brazil, they were invited by the Home
Board to consider serving on permanent staff as Finance Director at our
mission office in Springfield, Illinois. After much prayer and thoughtful
consideration they accepted the invitation. In August 1993 their location
of ministry changed from Brazil to the home office where they continue to
minister for God's glory. Pray that God would grant them wisdom day by day
to serve Him faithfully. ... Not with eye service as men pleasers, but as
bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with good will
doing service, as to the Lord and not to men... Ephesians 6:6-7
